Woodturning Course

The Woodturning courses take place in the workshop on our premises which is equipped with everything you will need.
They are run in a relaxed and informal manner.

Woodturning Courses
Our Woodturning Courses are taken by Sue Harker who is a Registered Professional Turner, Sue also demonstrates at Clubs, Woodworking Shows and Retail Outlets across England.
The courses are held on a one-to-one basis. Our lessons can be adapted to suit the individuals needs, from a complete beginner to somebody who is wanting to advance further with their turning, including Sue's speciality of Open Segment and Inside Out Turning.
Refreshments are available.

Course fees: - Half day £45 * Full day £90 *Two days £180
*Open Segment and Inside Out courses £100 per day
Half day - 10am – 1pm or 1pm – 4pm
Full day - 10am – 4.00pm

My standard courses are:-

BEGINNERS COURSE
Full day course covers: -
1. An introduction to Workshop Health and Safety
2. Basic tool requirements
3. Tool sharpening
4. Mounting and turning a bowl
5. Turning between centres
6. Sanding and finishing
Half day course covers: -
1. An introduction to Workshop Health and Safety
2. Basic tool requirements
3. Tool Sharpening
4. Either - Bowl turning or Turning between centres
5. Sanding and finishing

OPEN SEGMENT TURNING COURSE
A minimum of 1 full day is required, depending on your ability
The course covers: -
1. Timber choice and preparation
2. Measuring and cutting the segments
3. Gluing the blanks for turning using my open segment wheel
4. The turning of a bowl, vase or lidded pot.
5. Sanding and finishing

INVOLUTED TURNING (INSIDE OUT TURNING) COURSE
A minimum of 1 day is required, depending on your ability.
The course covers: -
1. Timber choice and preparation
2. Gluing – including paper glue joints
3. Mounting the timber on the lathe
4. Turning the various combinations of timber orientations to create
an open ended or closed inside-out section
5. Sanding and finishing
